Reminder: Secure vehicle and personal property when visiting Crisler Center and Yost Arena

The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) wants to remind the campus community and visitors to take steps to protect their personal items and ensure their vehicles are secure. This reminder is due to a recent event that happened near campus.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department (AAPD), a total of 27 vehicles were forcibly broken into while parked at Pioneer High School during the U-M Men’s Basketball game on Sunday, Jan. 12. AAPD is actively investigating the incident.

As a reminder, when visiting Yost Arena or the Crisler Center, bags and other items are not allowed inside the buildings. If you must leave valuables in your vehicle while attending sporting events or other on-campus activities, it is recommended that those items be hidden from plain sight with the doors locked.

Items to keep out of plain sight can include, but are not limited to:

  • Purses or wallets
  • Cell Phones
  • Cash, credit cards, or debit cards
  • Electronic devices
  • Personal Identification

It’s important to remain aware of your surroundings. If you see anyone acting suspiciously or unusually or potentially breaking into vehicles, contact DPSS at (734) 763-1131, texting 377911, or calling 911.
The AAPD is also asking that anyone with any information related to the incident on Jan. 12 contact them at (734)794-6920, email tips@a2gov.org, or submit an anonymous tip at aapd.a2gov.org/silentwitness.
