This week students are heading back to Ann Arbor for the fall semester. Due to COVID-19, move-in will look a little different this year.
Whether you’re beginning your first year on campus or returning for another year, we have some tips and reminders to get you off on the right foot for a safe, secure move-in and school year.
Packing
In addition to the traditional checklist of items to bring to school with you, add a U-Lock to your list if you’re planning to bring a bicycle. Avoid cable locks, which are easy to cut through. For an additional measure to deter theft, register your bicycle, and any of your electronics with DPSS. This property registration program is free and can assist in the recovery of items in the event of theft.
Getting To Campus
As you make your way to Ann Arbor, we suggest using Waze to help navigate through local construction and traffic. Traffic and parking changes and updates can be found here. Curbside street parking is available at City of Ann Arbor parking meters along the front of buildings and bagged meters are free to use for students moving in.
COVID-19 Precautions
- Arrive on time: If you are moving into the dorms, do your best to arrive during your assigned move-in slot. Once you arrive, there will be markers to indicate where to stand throughout the check-in process for physical distancing.
- Follow COVID-19 protocols: Living in Michigan Housing this year will be strongly informed by public health expertise. Each of us has a responsibility for protecting the health of the community. Each member of our community commits to three fundamentals:
- Wearing face coverings at all times in the public areas
- Practicing physical distancing
- Maintaining good hand hygiene
- Limit helpers: Remember to limit the number of helpers that you bring to assist in your move – each student may only have one other person with them in their dorm building at a time.
- Ask us! DPSS staff will be on-site to assist with parking, directions, and any additional questions you may have.
Moving In
Blue rolling bins will be available for students to check out to assist with moving items up to their rooms quickly. Blue bins will be sanitized between each use. To prevent the possibility of theft, do not leave items unattended on the sidewalk or in an unlocked car. Make sure that dorm room doors are locked when you leave. Parking at the dorms will be limited by space and time — if you need nearby parking after you’ve unloaded all of your items, ask DPSS officers for the most convenient locations.
