On Wednesday, Dec. 5, Washtenaw County children, their families and local law enforcement came together to participate in the annual Shop with a Cop event on the west side of Ann Arbor. The event is hosted by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and brings local law enforcement agencies together to provide local families in need with a memorable holiday celebration at a local Meijer.
The Shop with a Cop event provided each child with a winter jacket, backpack, stocking filled with goodies, $150 shopping spree at Meijer, food and gas gift cards for their family and more. After the shopping spree, the children were able to see Santa, decorate cookies and make their own stuffed animals.
“We are grateful to be able to participate in this event each year to give back to local families, especially around the holidays,” said U-M Police Chief Robert Neumann. “This event would not be possible without the gracious support of the community.”
The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office collects donations year-round to support the event. All of the proceeds go toward the event to support the local families in need. If you’re interested in donating, you can do so by visiting the Shop with a Cop Facebook page and clicking “shop now.”
