Police Incident on Diag – March 16, 2017

March 17, 2017 – An incident occurred on the University of Michigan Diag March 16 around 5 p.m. in which Ann Arbor Police officers chased and caught a felony suspect and drove over a light pole. No bystanders were injured during the incident..

“University of Michigan Police arrived to assist at the scene following the pursuit of the suspect onto campus and his arrest. We took immediate steps to ensure the safety of our students and mitigate any further harm..

“We are grateful this incident was resolved without injury to bystanders. We recognize that incidents involving officer foot and vehicle pursuits can be frightening for bystanders, and we regret any impact for those in the area.

“We hold our community’s safety as our top priority. We value our strong partnership with the Ann Arbor Police and will continue collaborating with them on issues of mutual concern.”
