Ann Arbor, MI – The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) is warning the community about individuals impersonating members of our department in an effort to obtain money.
“We want to make sure our community knows that DPSS does not solicit or collect money via phone or email for any reason,” said Robert Neumann, Chief of Police.
Individuals targeted by the scam indicated that they were being told they had a warrant and they needed to call in order to avoid being arrested. Generally, these scams impersonating law enforcement will ask individuals to provide money, gift cards, or other financial means and then threaten arrest if the demands are not complied with.
Community members can verify communications supposedly from the Division of Public Safety & Security or the University Police Department by contacting our Dispatch Center at 734-763-1131 and selecting option 1.
