Early on Monday morning, two water main breaks occurred near Plymouth Road between Green Road and Huron Parkway.
As a result, the City of Ann Arbor issued a boil water advisory affecting areas around Plymouth Road, from Traver Road to US 23. The affected areas include part of the University’s North Campus. Specific information on impacted locations can be found using this map: LINK
No evidence of water contamination has been identified at this point. However, this advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure until further notice. The notice is expected to be lifted within 48 hours.
Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) within Facilities and Operations recommends following guidance provided by the City of Ann Arbor. This includes actions such as:
- Do not consume water unless it has been heated to a rolling boil for at least one minute.
- Use bottled water or boil water for all culinary purposes. Shut down all hot and cold beverage and pop machines that are directly connected to the building water supply.
- Shut off ice machines until the advisory is lifted. Dispose of ice that was made during the advisory.
- Hand washing is acceptable during a boil water advisory. The use of hand sanitizer following hand washing will provide an extra level of protection.
- Once the advisory is lifted, thoroughly flush all fixtures for five minutes.
