UM EMERGENCY ALERT – CANCELED

UPDATE: The Tornado Warning for Washtenaw County has expired. The storm which prompted the warning stayed to the Northwest of Ann Arbor and no longer appears capable of producing a tornado.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10:00 p.m. for southeast Michigan.

The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a

* Tornado Warning for…
Washtenaw County in southeastern Michigan…

* Until 800 PM EDT.

* At 721 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Brooklyn, or 8 miles west of Manchester, moving
northeast at 50 mph.

HAZARD…Tornado.

SOURCE…Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT…Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

Manchester around 730 PM EDT.
Chelsea around 740 PM EDT.
Dexter around 745 PM EDT.
Ann Arbor around 750 PM EDT.
Dixboro around 755 PM EDT.
Salem and Whitmore Lake around 800 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Hudson
Mills, Lyndon Township, Hudson Mills Metropark, Bridgewater, Delhi
Mills, Pleasant Lake and Barton Hills.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.
