Before you leave for the semester break, make sure your residence is secure and safe, so you don’t have any unpleasant surprises when you return.
Reminder: Residence Halls close at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017.
Here’s a checklist to make sure that your residence is safe and secure when you’re not in town:
- Lock all doors and windows
- Secure sliding glass doors and windows with security bars
- Close curtains or blinds
- Keep valuables and expensive electronics secure and out of sight
- Take home passport/IDs and medications
- Take out the trash
- Unplug electronics to help prevent an electrical fire
- Store bike in a secure interior location or take it back home
- Stop mail delivery while you are away or have a trusted neighbor or family member retrieve it for you
- Do not turn off heat before you leave (A minimum of at least 52 degrees fahrenheit is commonly recommended.)
- Avoid parking your car on the street (If the city of Ann Arbor declares a snow emergency, your car may be towed while you’re away.)
From all us at DPSS, have a safe and relaxing break. We look forward to seeing you in the new year!
