Nov. 28, 2016 – As news continues to unfold about today’s incident at Ohio State University, we want to assure our community that we also train for such unfortunate situations. At the University of Michigan, our officers regularly exercise protocols and are equipped to respond to active attackers. Our training for our students, faculty and staff includes Run, Hide or Fight — run if you can, hide if you can’t and as a last resort fight.

If such an emergency incident occurs on our campus, we will issue a UM Emergency Alert. When activated, all U-M students, faculty and staff automatically will receive an email. Those who have registered devices with our system will receive text and voice messages, and messages will appear on our U-M and DPSS websites, Twitter feeds and digital signage. Learn more about UM Emergency Alerts here.

As always, anyone who sees suspicious activity is urged to immediately call 911.
